You know how annoying numbness can be. It affects your speech, your smile, your ability to drink… In fact, you might even catch yourself drooling. After a dental procedure, OraVerse® reverses the annoying, unwanted, and unnecessary effects of lingering numbness twice as fast so you can get over it and get on with your day. OraVerse is the first and only product to rapidly reverse the effects of your local dental anesthetic so you can feel normal sooner. It is clinically proven to accelerate the return of normal sensation and function following routine dental procedures. Studies show that people who were given OraVerse not only feel normal twice as fast, but they can smile, speak, and drink sooner, and drooling is minimized!*†

OraVerse is administered by your dentist immediately following your procedure so that you can return to normal sensation and function sooner. And don’t worry, studies have shown that OraVerse won’t increase the amount of pain from the dental procedure. What OraVerse will do is help you get over that lingering numbness twice as fast, so you can do what you want to do without the limitations of numbness.*†

The following are frequently asked questions regarding Oraverse:

Q. What is OraVerse?
A. OraVerse (phentolamine mesylate) is an injection that reverses the effects of local anesthesia (numbness after a dental procedure) and accelerates the return of normal sensation and function. It helps you avoid the unwanted and unnecessary lingering numbness in the lips and tongue after routine dental procedures. This loss of sensation can result in difficulty with smiling, drinking, and speaking and can cause uncontrolled drooling. These are unpleasant and unnecessary side effects of the local anesthetic. OraVerse can bring you back to normal twice as fast.

Q. How well does OraVerse work in reversing numbness?
A. Numbness following the use of a dental anesthetic usually lasts 3 to 5 hours. With OraVerse, you will feel normal and function naturally twice as fast. OraVerse is administered by your dentist immediately following the procedure while you are still numb.

Q. How safe is OraVerse?
A. The same drug used in OraVerse has been utilized in other medical applications for more than 50 years. In addition, OraVerse has been studied extensively in clinical trials all across the U.S. In these studies, OraVerse was given to dental patients (aged 4 through 92) and compared with a control group that received no drug. OraVerse was found to be safe and effective for patients aged 6 and older weighing at least 33 lbs. OraVerse was found not to interfere with other drugs, and there were no contraindications, or known circumstances that would make using OraVerse inappropriate.

Q. Is there anyone who should not receive OraVerse?
A. OraVerse is recommended only for adults, adolescents, and children aged 6 years and older weighing at least 33 lbs. In addition, OraVerse has not been studied in pregnant women, and it is not known if OraVerse is excreted in human milk so caution should be exercised if a pregnant or nursing woman is considering using OraVerse. Please consult with your doctor.

Q. What are the potential side effects with OraVerse?
A. In the clinical trials, there were no serious side effects associated with OraVerse. The majority of side effects were mild and those went away within 48 hours. The frequency of side effects was nearly identical between OraVerse patients and the control groups who did not receive the drug. Patients did not report more pain with OraVerse or use more pain medication than they did with the control.

Q. Will OraVerse hurt?
A. In the clinical trials, OraVerse had no effect on the amount of pain patients experienced or their use of pain relievers after the procedure. And because OraVerse is given while you are still numb from the anesthetic, it is unlikely that you will feel the injection. In clinical studies, the incidence of injection site pain in the OraVerse group was similar to that in the control group (5% vs 4%, respectively).

OraVerse is indicated for the reversal of soft-tissue anesthesia, i.e., anesthesia of the lip and tongue and the associated functional deficits resulting from an intraoral submucosal injection of a local anesthetic containing a vasoconstrictor. OraVerse is recommended for adults, adolescents, and children aged 6 and older weighing at least 33 lbs.
